The Director of the FCT Department of Mass Education, Alhaji Musa Maikasuwa Yakubu, has retired from the FCTA after 35 years of service. Prior to his retirement, he served in various capacities in the education sector of the FCT. He started as a classroom teacher and rose to the highest level of bureaucracy in the Education Secretariat.

In the course of his impressive career, Alhaji Yakubu, served as Classroom Teacher, School Principal, Head of Planning Division in the then Department of Education, Executive Chairman of FCT Universal Basic Education Board, Executive Chairman, FCT Secondary Education Board, Acting Secretary for Education and finally Director of DME from where he retired.
During a valedictory management meeting, he urged the staff to “be patient and calm” in the course of discharging their duties and to extend the kind of cooperation and support given him to the Acting Director. Replacing Alhaji M. M. Yakubu, is Mrs. Yawon Caroline Wusum as Acting Director who until her elevation was Deputy Director, and Head of Department, Literacy Division.

Mrs. Yawon has promised to do everything in her capacity to “make things work and improve staff welfare. She also charged the staff to be more committed and diligent in performing their duties and encouraged them to work by all extant civil service rules.
