FCTA GRANTS SCHOLARSHIP TO GIRL INJURED FOLLOWING CRASH OF NAF JET

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has granted full scholarship to Miss Elizabeth Elijah, a 15 year old girl who was injured following the crash of Nigerian Airforce jets during air parade rehearsals for the 2018 Independence Day celebrations.
Director, FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB), Dr. Adamu Noma who led a delegation from the FCTA Education Secretariat on the directive of the Ag Secretary, Dr Bala Liman to the Maitama District Hospital, broke the good news to Miss Elijah in the presence of her mother and presented a set of scholarship forms to her.

Speaking at the event, the Director of the FCT Scholarship Board, Alhaji Isa Rany said that FCT Administration has decided to take care of the expenses for her education and will cover educational costs from JSS 1 right up to the university level. This will commence as soon as she is discharged from the hospital and submits the completed forms.

In her response to the gesture from the FCTA, Elizabeth’s mother, Mrs Victoria Elijah said that the scholarship award was an answer to prayers. According to her, Elizabeth dropped out of school after the completion of her primary education but the paucity of funds prevented her from continuing to Junior Secondary School. She expressed her immense gratitude to the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello and the Education Secretariat for the kind gesture and assured that Elizabeth will make the best use of this opportunity.
It may be recalled that in the wake of the news that a young girl was injured from debris from the crashed jet, the FCT Minister immediately directed that she be transferred to a government hospital and given proper medical care. It was following her admission in the hospital and interrogation that it was revealed that she dropped out of school but had a strong desire to continue her education.

Dr Noma commended the efforts of the FCT Call Centre and it’s head, Dr Jummai Ahmadu in bringing matters such as this to the attention of the FCT Administration. He also used the opportunity to remind all residents of the FCT to ensure that their children and wards go to school. Education, he reminded them is the best legacy they can leave for them.
