To kick start the activities for the take off of the Nigeria –Korea Model School Abuja a seminar was held on 10th July, 2018 at the Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria, Rivers House, Central Business District Abuja for the stakeholders. The Development of School Operation Manual for the Nigeria –Korea Model School Abuja has been on since 2017. The seminar was organized for the purpose of presenting a draft of the manual to the stake holders who included KOICA, Chairman UBEB, Director FCT UBEB, Director DPPR&S, Director FCT Education Resource Centre, Director Quality Assurance, & members of the Operations Manual Committee (Primary school/Junior Secondary School).
Welcoming the participants, Project Manager, Prof. Jay Gill Pyeon congratulated the School operation Manual Committee and teachers who have worked very hard to develop the manual. In her own opening remarks, Director, DPPR&S, Mrs. Theresa Obiageli Mbonu stated that the development of an Operational plan for an individual School outside of the usual school rules we are used to is somewhat alien, however, when it was brought up as part of the process of establishing the Nigeria – Korea Model School the Education Secretariat took the challenge and constituted a committee to ensure the manual was developed. The Committee members and teachers of the Model School with the technical support of our Korean partners have worked tirelessly to produce the draft manual. She said this will serve as a model for schools to embrace the idea of an individual school operation manual.
The Korean experts and teachers made presentations of the different aspects of the manual. Some of the topics presented included: Direction and Policies of the School Education Plan, Direction and Policies of the School Administration Plan, Centre for Teaching and Learning: Operation Plan, which were presented by the Korean technical experts. Other topics presented by the Principal, Head Teacher as well as other key staff of the Model School includes: School Philosophy, Vision & Main Task, Curriculum management by subject, Extracurricular Activities, School Organization Management by Department.
