The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has appealed to well-meaning Nigerians and development partners to support its effort at repositioning the Education Sector.

Representative of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olusade Adeola, stated this at the maiden presentation of three working documents on getting feedback from stakeholders through seeking opinions of parents, students and other community members on education services provided by the FCT Education Secretariat.
Mr Adeola commended the Department of Policy, Planning, Research and statistics under the Education Secretariat for its outstanding efforts in the extensive research work carried out in the area of Monitoring Learning Achievement (MLA), Conduct of Community Score card on Education and the Conduct of Annual School Census (ASC) which according to him, will greatly help in making informed decisions and solving problems.

He said the Administration recognized the Department’s concerted efforts to ensure that the general public was appropriately informed and had easy access to numbers of Schools, Teachers and Students through accurate data collection.
The Permanent Secretary explained that education was at the heart of all national development efforts and the Administration of President Muhammadu Buhari recognizes that the education system must prepare and equip the citizenry to effectively contribute their quota to national development.
Mr. Olusade Adesola who specifically expressed delight on the 3 working documents said the FCT Administration will vigorously pursue whatever will make the FCT the Centre of Excellence and the best in the country in terms of education delivery. He assured that the Administration would look into the challenges identified in the documents in order to make the teaching and learning process conducive for all.

Earlier, the Director, Department of Policy, Planning, Research & Statistics, Dr. Mohammed Sani Ladan pointed out that the Department under the Education Secretariat has the mandate of conducting research on emergency issues of educational importance adding that the 3 working documents would serve as guide for educational policy formulators and curriculum developers to plan school activities. He commended the development partners like UNICEF for their key roles in strengthening the Education Management Information System (EMIS).

Also speaking, the Ag. Director, Administration and Finance, Education Secretariat, Mallam Leramoh Abdulrazaq said the benefits of the documents include facilitating robust planning, gathering of accurate data that would help workable decision making, adding that the documents have revealed that despite the influx of people to the FCT, there was a steady geometric progressive growth kin the numbers of schools, teachers, students and performance, among other benefits.
